Miss Julia Stirs Up Trouble Review
Hazel Marie Pickens is doing well taking care of her twins and all is okay in the household. That is, until James, who runs their kitchen, falls downstairs and must stay in bed for at least five or six weeks because of a broken wrist and sprained ankle. He can’t use crutches due to the size of the cast.
Miss Julia talks her friends into giving Hazel Marie cooking lessons and sharing their recipes collected by Miss Julia into a homemade recipe book so that Hazel Marie can fix meals for her family.
In the midst of all the coming and going, a mysterious caller turns out to be Hazel Marie’s uncle, Brother Vern, who wants to stay with her for a while. Hazel Marie takes him in and the decision causes her further trouble because his needs, or wants, are more than she can provide.
Realizing that Brother Vern was the final straw in upsetting the household, Miss Julia tried to come up with a plan to get him out of the house. When the man himself introduced his own scheme to a friend of Miss Julia’s, she realized she could solve that particular household problem with a scheme of her own. Could she get away with it or will her plan backfire and alienate her friendship with Hazel Marie.
Miss Julia Stirs up Trouble is the fourteenth book in a popular Southern Belle series written by Ann B. Ross. The series continues to provide a unique look at southern living in a town filled with the type of men and women you would expect to meet; warm, friendly, and yet sometimes overly interested in the problems of others.
The series show Ms. Ross knows what she is writing about. The continuity of stories from book to book, the new and recurring characters, and unexpected twists and turns throughout the story pulls readers in hopefully giving them the desire to get to know the inhabitants of the city.
It’s obvious the author knows the quirks and lifestyle of southerners and puts the information to good use as she crafts her winning stories. Her plots are solid and the twists are always in the right spot to keep pages turning as readers look for what happens next.
