The Lost Boys
Santa Carla isn’t all that it appears to be after brothers Michael and Sam, and their mother, Lucy, move in with Grandpa. When Michael gets mixed in with David and his gang, it’s up to Sam and his new found friends Edgar and Alan Frog to help him from becoming a full-fledged member of the vampire community. Here are a few movie mistakes to look for while watching “The Lost Boys”.
∙ At the beginning of the movie, the boardwalk guard is walking across the vacant parking lot, toward his car. When he starts to run, the guard is holding his hat on his head with his right hand. He’s still holding the hat in place during close-up views. But when the scene cuts to far, overhead views, the guard’s hands are by his side.
∙ When Lucy first meets Max, David and the others arrive at the store. Although the vampire isn’t supposed to cast a reflection (we later see Michael become transparent when he starts to turn), a close look shows the actors’ reflections in the scene. This is especially noticeable when Marko is against the counter.
∙ Michael arrives home after the night out with David and the others. He goes to the kitchen and opens the carton of milk on one side. However, when Michael drops it, the carton opens completely when it hits the floor. But, later, when Lucy goes to pick it up, the carton is only partially opened (the side facing up is open while the other side is closed).
∙ After running out on him at the restaurant, Lucy decides to leave a bottle of wine for Max. When she tries to walk to the house, Max’s dog, Thorn, starts to chase her. The dog tries to get through the wooden gate. In the close-ups, the wood on the gate is splintered / broken, but it’s still intact in other views.
∙ Sam spills water on Max when he comes to the house for dinner. Max’s jacket is noticeably wet throughout the scene. But, when Max is standing and decides to leave, his jacket is dry.
∙ CAUTION: May Contain Spoilers! Towards the end of the movie, the vampires are in the house. When Sam hits one with his arrow, the vampire begins to combust on the stereo. In a front view of the vampire burning, both of his hands fly off. But, at the end of the scene, after he finishes burning, one of the vampire’s hands with attached forearm and part of his leather jacket falls to the ground.
“The Lost Boys” (1987) stars Jason Patric, Corey Haim, Dianne Wiest, Kiefer Sutherland, Jami Gertz, Corey Feldman, Alex Winter, Barnard Hughes and Edward Herrmann. It runs 97 minutes and is rated R for violence/gore, language, alcohol/smoking, and frightening/intense scenes.
