Fusion of Anime and the Circus at Museum of Contemporary Art Tokyo

Guest Author - Taisha Turner

This summer at the Museum of Contemporary Art Tokyo, a Grand Circus Exhibition is in the works. The Grand Circus Exhibition is a fusion of anime and the circus. The anime film ‘Howl’s Moving Castle’ is the basis of the show.

‘Howl’s Moving Castle’ centers on the life and love between Sophie and Howl. Sophie is a 90-year-old hag, a result of a witch’s curse. Howl is a magician.

The film is the winner of the Japanese Film Fan Award. The award is voted by motion picture fans.

The circus exhibition is a sequel in a way. The show centers on the anime characters as a circus troupe. The circus troupe’s main focus in life is to entertain their audience.

The circus exhibition is completely different from the Diana Wynn Jones’ one. Her sequel ’Castle in the Air’ continues with Sophie and Howl’s romance with magic spells and wizards.

The exhibition at the Museum of Contemporary Art Tokyo is from April 27 to August 21, 2005. The public can barely wait for the opening.

A link to ‘Castles in the Air’ wallpaper is provided. Own a copy of ‘Howl’s Moving Castle’ for the original story.
