Fung Shui an Impossible BedroomIt’s important to have harmony and balance for positive chi in the bedroom because this is the room where we rest and sleep. If married or in a relationship, this is the room where we spend intimate time with our spouse or partner. Negative chi in the bedroom affects almost every aspect of our lives so we need to pay particular attention to creating the best energy flow possible. If you have trouble sleeping, it could be due to negative chi in the bedroom. If you are having problems with your spouse or partner, this too, could be due to negative chi in the bedroom. Negative chi in the bedroom could also contribute to not being able to conceive. A client complained that she and her husband were having difficulty sleeping after moving into a new home. She also indicated their relationship seemed to be deteriorating and asked if it might be negative energy in the house. There were other complaints but she was most concerned about their lack of sleep and their relationship issues. I looked at her new home and found several areas in need of Feng Shui cures. Since the bedroom seemed to have the most negative chi, we decided to start with there and work our way through the rest of the house. The bedroom is quite large and faces west so it gets its natural light in the late afternoon and evening. Because of this, the windows had dark, heavy drapes that were closed most of the time. There are exposed beams with one beam going through the center of the bed. The bed is positioned with the head against a solid wall and the door is to the right side of the bed. The walls, floors and furniture are all wood with lots of sharp corners. There are two overstuffed chairs along with a television, a computer and a desk in the room. My first thought was to completely gut and remodel the bedroom but this wasn’t an option. So, we set to work using what was available to create positive chi in the room. First, we took down the drapes and installed venation blinds with a small valance as the window treatment. These can be opened during the day and closed for privacy and at night. I cautioned the client to make sure the strips in the blinds were pointing upward when open to guard against sharp edges pointing directly into the room and creating sha chi. Next, we draped white and pastel cloth over the beams that are above the bed to create a canopy to soften the effects of the beams. If they replace the bed at some time in the future, I recommended buying a canopy bed and taking down the cloth. The position of the bed doesn’t present a problem so our next cure was to add two artificial red roses in a crystal vase along with some wall hangings. The red roses are to add the fire element to ‘heat’ up the romance and yes, it’s OK to use artificial flowers and plants. The wall hangings were chosen for their relaxing themes and the couple’s preferences. Next, we replaced the square night stands with round tables. We found two inexpensive round tables with drawers at a local secondhand store. The chest of drawers and dresser couldn’t be replaced even though they had corners directed towards the bed aiming sha chi at the bed. To correct this, we moved the chest a few inches to the left and the dresser a few inches to the right so the direction of the corners didn’t cut across the bed. If the chest and dresser are replaced at some time in the future, I recommended buying furniture with rounded corners. We left the overstuffed chairs but I suggested removing the television, computer and desk from the room so these were relocated elsewhere in the house. We replaced the desk with a round wicker hamper for storing bed linens. All furniture in the bedroom was arranged for an unblocked traffic flow. A few weeks after the cures in the bedroom were in place, the couple reported they were sleeping much better and their relationship had greatly improved. We are now working on creating positive chi in the rest of the house. Even the most impossible room can benefit from a few Feng Shui cures. | Related Articles | Editor's Picks Articles | Top Ten Articles | Previous Features | Site Map
