Formal Wedding Etiquette – Wedding Party Attire and Attendants
Wondering what your wedding party should wear at your formal wedding? Not even sure how many attendants should be in the wedding party? Here is some formal wedding etiquette.

While I am providing you with some formal wedding etiquette information, I want you to remember that this should only be used as an outline and this is not set in stone. Feel free to include personal touches to make your wedding special.

Bride’s attire
When planning a formal wedding, the bride usually wears a long white gown, chapel train, gloves and an optional fingertip length veil during the day. During the evening the veil is longer. Very formal weddings would require the bride to have a full length veil and extended cathedral train. Formal wedding dresses take anywhere between 10-28 weeks to be completed so once you choose the designer you may want to give them a call. Vera Wang, Nicole Miller and Monique L’Huiller are some formal wedding dress designers.

Groom’s attire
When planning a formal wedding, the groom usually wears a black or grey cutaway or tailcoat in the daytime. Ascots, gloves, striped trousers and high collared or wing collard shirts are appropriate. A formal evening wedding would require the groom to wear patent leather shoes, a waistcoat, white bow tie and black tailcoat. Calvin Klein and Hugo Boss offer exceptional formal tailcoats for both daytime and evening weddings.

Bridesmaids’ attire
When planning a formal wedding, the bridesmaids’ usually wear dresses of similar length to the bride. Formal bridesmaids’ dresses take anywhere between 10-14 weeks to be completed so once you choose the designer you may want to give them a call. Vera Wang, Nicole Miller and Monique L’Huiller are some formal bridesmaids’ dress designers.

Groomsmen attire
When planning a formal wedding, the groom’s attendants usually wear similar attire to the groom.

Bride’s attendants
When planning a formal wedding, there is usually a maid or matron of honor, 4-10 bridesmaids, a flower girl and a ring bearer are optional.

Groom’s attendants
When planning a formal wedding, there is usually a best man and one usher for ever 50 guests or the same number of groom’s attendants for the amount of bridesmaids.
