'Inside Nextel Cup' on SpeedTV

Guest Author - Sandy Mullins

Has it been a dry spell for you since the last race at Homestead? Well, I know in our house it has been. NASCAR is only sport I will sit through with my guy. I hate football, basketball and can only tolerate baseball to a certain extent (my team has to be winning).

I will admit I have learned to enjoy watching the boys go round and round in circles. I truly believe it is due to one show and that’s Inside Nextel Cup. Through watching Inside Nextel Cup Monday Nights on Speed TV, I have gotten to know the drivers of NASCAR. I have learned a lot about racing and have asked questions and even more questions.

You wonder, if I do understand the other sports? Oh, I understand them all. I grew up being a fan, but I just find them boring. There is something about the men of NASCAR, the dynamics of these guys, the need for speed, the little boy that comes out in them in so many ways. I have my favorite drivers and of course my least favorite.

The host of Inside Nextel Cup is Allen Bestwick, who worked on broadcasting NASCAR from 86-2000 for Motor Racing Network and moved to Television in the mid 90's with ESPN’s NASCAR Today Show. Allen moved to SpeedTV when it was formed in 1996 with 'Inside Winston Cup' and other shows. Allen joined NBC Sports and then TNT Sports in 1999, as a play by play announcer for NASCAR on all the networks. He brings years of experience to Inside Nextel Cup.

Inside Nextel Cup features as regulars Michael Waltrip, Ken Schrader and Johnny Benson (all drivers for NASCAR). Together they recap the last weeks’ races: time trials and the race, then analysis of what worked and what went wrong. They always have a guest on the show, whether it is another NASCAR driver, a pit crew member or manager, etc.

So, in conclusion I recommend that you tune in Monday Nights at 7:00 ET/6:00 CT to the SpeedTV and watch Inside Nextel Cup after the Budweiser Shootout at Daytona starting February 14.
