Hong Kong Local Travel - Central Kowloon to Hong Kong Island via the Star Ferry
The Hong Kong visitor must ride the Star Ferry. The Star Ferry plies the Victoria Harbor waters which it has done for more than a century. The ferry is in countless films. Nothing portrays Hong Kong like the Star Ferry crossing the harbor waters.
The five-minute ride from Central Kowloon to the island of Hong Kong is a requisite. The boat ride gives the passenger an impressive view of the island’s skyline. On the first ride the visitor must sit at the boat’s bow.
Look for the island’s green peaks while waiting for the other passengers to load on the boat. Take a moment to watch the other vessels sailing the waters. Momentarily the gangplank will rise and thus begin the journey of dreams.
The green peaks disappear until the skyscrapers dominate the view. The Bank of China Tower and Two International Financial Centre are two familiar buildings dotting the horizon.
The ferry gently bumps the Hong Kong Island pier signaling arrival. Take a look around and enjoy the ferry’s accommodations while the gangplank is lowered and the passengers disembark.
Now on shore, turn and look back at Kowloon. Turn back to begin exploring the island’s attractions. The HKTB Visitor & Information Services Centre booth is located at the pier to help.
