Flirting at a Glance

Flirting at a Glance
Flirting is a form of human interaction that is regularly practiced in virtually every culture known to mankind. Generally speaking, flirting is used as a way of expressing romantic interest but is sometimes also used as a way to have some harmless fun while socializing. At times, a friendly demeanor can be misinterpreted as flirtatious behavior, which could easily lead to misunderstandings and unnecessary feelings of rejection. Developing a better understanding of what flirting is and how it can best be used to support a wide range of intentions will help singles to avoid sending or receiving mixed signals. In a way, flirting is almost a language of its own but because there can often be so many discrepancies within it, the ability to accurately translate that language into terms you can understand is usually much easier said than done.

One of the most valuable ways to master the art of flirting is to pay close attention to the non-verbal cues hidden within the context of body language. Many singles believe that effective flirting is mostly driven by meaningful conversation but that is simply not the case. The mouth and the eyes play a crucial role in flirting so smile often and pay attention to the messages that are being transmitted through eye contact. What your body says to the target of your flirtations is often much more influential than anything that may come out of your mouth. Of course, coming across as unintelligible is certainly not going to score any brownie points with the object of your desire but if you let your body do most of the talking, you will probably increase your chances of achieving the most desired results.

Flirting comes in a variety of forms and is used for a variety of reasons. Some singles will use flirting as a way to gauge the interest of a potential romantic prospect. Others might engage in harmless flirting simply for the fun of it in social situations. No matter why or how flirting is used, there is no doubt that it plays a very prominent role in typical human interactions. Its prevalence alone makes it worthwhile to know how and in what context flirtation is best used. Ironically, knowing how not to flirt is perhaps even more important than knowing how to flirt. Anyone playing the dating game would be well advised to sharpen their social skills by spending some time studying the dos and don’ts of flirting.
