Our Member/Guest Tournament has been postponed due to a tornado on May 15 that passed through our golf course leaving destroyed and upturned trees along several places in all 27 holes of our golf club. Our #1 Mill course took the most damage and the evening of May 15 torrential rains caused flooding of the downed trees. This in turn took out the main bridge on that course and it was the final reason for cancelling this tournament.

This tournament has been re-scheduled for August 14-15. Our Pro Shop has taken charge of our Member/Guest Tournament and handled all the plans from registering, the format, the food, to final Hors d’oeuvers award party. This was a big change for the members of our Mill Creek Ladies Golf Association as we always had to do the planning and handling this event by ourselves. This will be a treat for all of us and a chance to relax and enjoy the games.

There will be practice rounds on Thursday by making your own tee times. Also planned is a long drive contest plus chipping and putting with awards given out for this. The format for the tournament is quite different as it will be an 18 hole game but divided into 6-hole matches. You and your guest will be placed in a flight according to you and your guest’s handicap and you will play three 6-hole matches to find the winner of each flight. Each card will be marked where everyone gets strokes on each hole and you will record the point you earn if you win the hole.

After a morning light breakfast we tee off at 8:30 a.m. for our first 6-hole match. We turn in the score cards and will be given a new card with new players for the next six holes and tee off will be at 10:30 a.m. Finishing these holes we turn in that card and have lunch and receive a new score card for the last and final six holes.

The pro shop will tally up all the card turned in after each six holes and will declare the winners in each flight. When we turn in those last cards we proceed to the Twelve-Oaks home of Mill Creek Owner for our Hors d’oeuvres and await the awarding of flight winners. There will also be a trunk show from the Rosebud Dress Shop in Temple, Texas handled by our own member Barbara Chandler. This all should make for an interesting day. I will post a report after the tournament including pictures in August to see if our members enjoyed this type of format. It may cause some problem with members getting their guests to be available in August. This is always a problem when you have to re-schedule a tournament.
