Tsunami Relief Effort - What You Can Do
The South Asia and Africa tsunami disaster left devastation and need unlike any we have ever known. Television coverage has left me reeling and trying to remind myself that this is not a disaster movie, it is real. The people swept away by the waves are real and those who will fall victim to disease unless help reaches them soon, are real people.
All of us feel the call to do something to help and need little motivation to donate to the relief efforts.
Why? Ths Bible tells us that Christ sacrificed his life for us so we ought to live sacrificially for our fellow believers, and not just live for ourselves.
[sacrifice: to surrender something of value for the sake of greater gain.]
If we see some someone in need and have the means to do something about it but do nothing, what happens to God's love? It disappears. 1John 3:16-18
This is where the rubber meets the road when it comes to Christian living. We are called to give sacrificially.
Let's not just talk about love; let's put it into practice!
James is clear about it. He says, "For instance, you meet a friend dressed in rags and starving and say, "Good morning, friend! Be clothed in Christ! Be filled with the Holy Spirit!" and then you walk off without giving him so much as a coat or a cup of soup - what good does that do?" James 2:15-16
Matthew 25:40 is a well-known verse for many Christians... Then the King (that’s Jesus) will say, "Whenever you did these things for one of the least important of these children of mine, that was me--you did it to me." Read Matthew 25:35-46
Do you need more encouragement to give?
According to Proverbs 11:24, when you are generous, your world gets larger and larger; when you are stingy it gets smaller and smaller.
Proverbs 11:25 says that the person who blesses others is blessed abundantly; those who help others are helped.
Pray for the victims of the disaster. Pray for guidance as to what you can do. But don’t wait... start now.
No amount is too small. Decide to send money according to your ability. Acts 11:29
These are a few of the agencies accepting contributions for assistance that they or their affiliates are providing for those affected by the earthquake and tsunamis in Asia. .
