Week One Journaling Prompt ~ Reflection
For 2011 we are going to focus on 52 weekly prompts instead of daily prompts. Each week we will have a ‘focus’ so that each day we can dig a little deeper instead of jumping all over the place in our writing.
WEEK ONE
This week I want you to focus on the word ‘Reflection’ and fully understand what it means to reflect.
Webster’s dictionary defines this word like this:
reflection >noun
1.....the phenomenon of light, heat, sound, etc. being reflected.
2.....an image formed by reflection.
3.....a consequence or result: healthy skin is a reflection of good health.
4.....a thing bringing discredit.
5.....serious thought or consideration
Monday. . .find as many ‘reflections’ of light, heat, sound, etc. and jot down what you see. Like yesterday, I say a rainbow and this is a reflection of light hitting moisture at the right angle. A rainbow reminds me of God’s promise to the world.
Tuesday. . .find images formed by reflection. Shadows are images formed by a reflection. Seeing shadows reminds me that God has no shifting shadows.
Wednesday. . .look at others around you and meditate on the reflection you see in their countenance. Taking the time to really look at someone is a choice because we can see reflections of joy, peace, pain, suffering, sorrow as well as a host of emotions. When other look at you what reflection is projected?
Thursday. . .this is a hard one because reflections can come from the company we keep or the places we go or the things we do. Consider how your children’s actions reflect you as a parent. Consider how the friends you have reflect your character. Is there a reflection in you life that is bringing discredit to your life?
Friday. . .when journaling reflection is remembering and considering what has been written. Reflect on your life. What is your purpose? Do you have a purpose or are you still seeking? God promised that if we seek Him with a whole heart He will be found and that He will give our lives purpose.
Saturday. . .reflection is many things. Spend today doing some photo journalism. Take a hike or walk and take pictures of reflections you find. Then choose your favorites and give them a one word title. Email them to me and I will post the images in a special article.
Sunday. . .take the day off. Enjoy your family. Rest and get ready for next week!
