Favorite Free Android Apps
One of the best things that I love about my Android cell phone is the access to the Android Market. On the Android Market, you get access to tons and tons of free cell phone apps. Here are a few of my favorite ones.
Words with Friends – This app is a must-have for anyone who loves playing Scrabble. With Words with Friends, you can play against your friends, or unknown opponents. Each person attempts to make the words that will get the most points. Additionally there is no time limit so this game works great when you have extra down time.
Pandora Music – The Pandora app allows you to listen to all of your favorite genres of music. You can create personalized stations that play the music that you want to hear. For example, you can choose a specific artist and you will hear songs from that artist and other artists in the same genre. There is a paid version of Pandora but the ad-supported free version works just fine.
Angry Birds – I don’t know what it is about hurling birds across the screen to knock down foreign objects that makes my day but Angry Birds remains one of my favorite games. It's so addictive! There are a few different versions available, including Angry Birds Rio, but they are all free.
DoubleTwist – If you store music on your phone, DoubleTwist is mandatory. DoubleTwist allows you to set up personalized playlists, shuffle your songs, sort by artists, sort by albums and more. My absolute favorite feature about DoubleTwist is that you can control the order of your songs right from your phone’s home screen (lock page). This is an added bonus if you are listening to music and driving in the car.
Handscent SMS– Handscent SMS is a personalized text messaging application. With it, you can really take text messaging to the next level. You have so many options to choose from including, text fonts, backgrounds, colors, styles and more. It’s also great because you can block certain people from texting you if you ever get annoying texts.
Lookout – Lookout is a great security app. Whenever you download any new apps to your phone, Lookout will scan them to make sure they are safe for you to install. Don’t forget, smartphones can get virus’ just like traditional computers can.
All of the above apps can be downloaded directly from your cell phone’s Android market. You can use the search feature (magnifying glass) to easily find and install them.
