Crochet For Valentine's Day
Valentine’s Day is a great time to make small gifts for people. While traditionally Valentine’s Day was the day when people sent love tokens or messages to people in secret. Today, however the celebration has grown, and the whole Valentine theme spreads through all areas of life.
While there is plenty of opportunity to send Valentine’s greetings to lovers, this is also a great time to tell family, friends, neighbors etc how much you value them – and what better way to do it than with a spot of crochet!
Crochet Hearts
Tiny crochet hearts look great when crocheted in a fine cotton and used as card toppers. There is very little else required and this simple heart makes a lovely handmade card. The little heart can be added to a card with a message and it is a gift that will be cherished.
Small crochet hearts can also be used to make small lavender or other scented cushions. These, again, make great gifts and can be used to freshen drawers or wardrobes, as car fresheners or simply as ornaments.
Jewelry
The heart theme can extend to jewelry. The crochet edged heart pin makes a pretty brooch and is easy to adapt. The principle of crocheting around the edge of fabric could be extended to other shapes or perhaps used to make small purses, cushions or other items.
Irish Crochet
There are many different types of crochet heart pattern available, and in addition to those that you will find at BellaOnline, there are many other places to look. Irish crochet, for instance, is a good source of motifs and can present a wealth of pattern inspiration. Many of these motifs can be adapted and used independently.
Not Just Hearts!
The choice needn’t be limited to just hearts. Just because hearts are the traditional Valentine’s Day choice doesn’t mean that there aren’t alternatives. Some people looking for something different consider crocheted flowers, tiny crocheted dolls or bears or just simple granny squares. Tiny granny squares crocheted in brightly colored thread can make an extremely unusual and attractive addition to any card.
These are small projects and quick to do. As well as making a few items for family and friends, these are also good projects for making and selling. These are good fund raisers for charities and good causes as many people enjoy the look and feel of hand crocheted work.
Wishing you happy Crochet this Valentine’s Day!
