Bob Hope on Turner Classic Movies (TCM)

Was born as Leslie Townes Hope in London England on May 29, 1903. Bob Hope lived a long productive life until his death in July 27, in 2003, at 100 years old. Hope emigrated to the US at the age of five with his family. On his first film appearance in The Big Broadcast of 1937 he sang what would become his signature song “Thanks for the Memories. Hope starred in 71 movies, with some of the more famous as “The Road to . . .” series with Bing Crosby and Dorothy Lamour.

Hope received a total of five special Academy Awards for his contributions of entertaining the troops during World War II, Korean and Vietnam wars. Hope received Golden Globe, Emmys, Cecil B. DeMille Award, Screen Actors Guild: Lifetime Achievement Award, Kennedy Center Honors Lifetime Achievement Award, American Comedy Award, National Medal of Arts, four stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, Knighted by Queen Elizabeth II, and numerous others for over 1500 awards.

Hope was awarded the honor of being the first Honorary Veteran by the US Congress.
