The Colors of Spring

The world is at its finest this time of year. On this occasion, we bid farewell to the dull colors of winter. All of that seems to change in an instant when spring arrives.

The pastels of spring are an integral part of the season. They symbolize innocence and the hopes we have or the new season.

Pastel florals are one way we can introduce spring hues into our homes and lives. Take apple blossoms, for example. Their pastel blooms make great cut stems. They just seem to epitomize the season.

Some people like to force stems from fruit trees into bloom early. This can be done by cutting the stem and bringing it indoors. This is a great method of introducing spring colors into our decorating scheme. One of the earliest to bloom is the apricot. However, these trees aren’t hardy in all climates.

Hang a spring wreath made of flowers indoors near entryways. Pastel wreaths make stunning centerpieces as well. These will need a protected position if they are used outdoors on a porch or patio. Otherwise, the wind and rain can damage the flowers.

As Easter draws near, Easter lilies will be for sale. These are an excellent choice as a floral whether one celebrates the holiday or not. Most often, the blossoms will be pure white. However, they sometimes come in other colors as well. These make wonderful cut flowers.

Another way to add pastel colors to floral designs in the spring is to use decorative plant stakes. I’ve seen some with pastel spring motifs that would be perfect.

You can add pastel colors in other ways. For example, chunks of pastel glass are available. These are quite attractive, and add a beautiful touch when they’re placed in the bottom of glass vases before you add water. It is possible to coordinate the colors of the chunks with that of the container.
Color preference is partly a personal matter. However, it seems that gender plays a role in these choices. A survey found that more women than men preferred pastels for interior designs. When given a choice of pastels or bold shades, seventy-seven per cent of the men selected the bold ones. This compared to sixty-five percent of the women preferring pastels.
