Hello, and welcome back! The leaves are changing colors here, slowly. Next they'll be falling and making a nice blanket for my flower beds, I suppose. Which will leave the trees bare and the birds hunting for good spots to wait out the coming fall rains. And a really good time for me to have such a big pile of books waiting to be read.

First up this time is Eileen Wilks's Tempting Danger(Berkley), which is an expanded version of a novella she had out in the last year or so. Detective Lily Yu is on the case, trying to find a murderer who happens to be a werewolf. Rule Turner is a high-ranking werewolf in the local clan, and may or may not be helping Lily to catch the killer, but he's definitely bringing all her hormones to life. I remember liking the original version, and I'm not sure I like the expanded version better. Lots more to keep track of in this one, more 'magical' creatures and whole new subplots. If you really loved the original, you'll probably want to pick this up. Not enough romance here for me, so I'll stick with the novella version.

Next is Angela Knight's Master of the Night (Berkley). Erin Grayson is on a mission, and Reece Champion is it. If you're a vampire fan, this one may be for you. As I'm pretty selective in my vampire reading, it wasn't for me. Aside from the plain old vampire aspect of things, there's just something about having King Arthur's knights as vampires that disagrees with me. Not for me, but I know some of you are fans and will want to check this one out.

Judith Gould's latest is here, as well, The Parisian Affair (NAL). Jewelry designer Allegra Sheridan takes on an assignment that gets her into a situation she never could have imagined in her wildest dreams. Plenty of intrigue and lots of glitz. Not my cup of tea, but I know someone will feel differently.

Finally, we have Catherine Mulvaney's Run No More (Pocket Star). Tasya Flynn didn't intend to get caught, but retired thief Ian MacPherson isn't what she'd expect, and she soon finds herself involved in something huge, and illegal. I have a hard time rooting for characters who're thieves, no matter how emotional their attachment, and despite the paranormal twist, I find this one isn't a keeper for me. I was disappointed to discover that, actually. Perhaps next time.
