World Poker Tour

Guest Author - Sandy Mullins

World Poker Tour is going strong in its 2nd season in its Wednesday night at 9 P.M. ET/PT and repeating at midnight ET, with many copy cat shows riding high and some way down low on its popular high rated show’s shirttails. World Poker tour started with 15 episodes last year and has expanded to 21 in season two. It has added a Ladies’ Night, Hollywood Home Games (where celebrities battle it out for their charities) and a seat at the WPT (World Poker Tour) Championship. (This a copycat of Celebrity Poker Showdown on Bravo on Sunday nights at 9P.M. E/PT).

Poker tournaments and its players were once delegated to small, dark, smoke field rooms. Most with small pots the prize some with death the toll. Even a few have had happier places in history. Most everybody out there knows of the dead mans hand that Wild Bill Hickock was holding when he was shot to death in Deadwood.

Fewer people are aware of how a man won the right to stay in a small western town by a game of show low poker. That town is now called Show Low Arizona amd even settles the town manager (mayor) position with a hand of shows low. Fortunes have definitely been won and loss by game of poker. Some games lasting days and possibly weeks.

So now popularity has grown to the point that poker has hit main stream TV and is show regularly on TV. Several networks show games and tournaments on their channels, The Travel Channel, ESPN, and Fox to name a few. There are even other gambling shows popping up trying to ride the wave of the World Poker Tour or “WPT” and the abbreviated logo, such as Blackjack and Casino Games.

These Poker Tournaments start out with thousands of players buying in for the cost of anywhere from $10 and up hoping to last out and make it too the final table of six, with the final prize pool of $1,000,000.

There is a mixed subject on shows of this type and that is they advertise web gambling sites, These sites offer credit card gambling and with a few clicks of a few keys you can charge your bets. Most of us have problems passing up the chance to play will real money thinking they can double it or even triple their investments. My advice is to you if you don’t have it to lose don’t try these sites. Even if you can pass up the temptation the spyware will slow down your computer to a snails place.
If you need help there are lots of sites out there. See the related links for information on these.
