Self Limiting Beliefs and Weightloss


What happens when you're trying to do all the right things and you're still not losing weight? You're trying to eat healthier than before, exercise regularly and find positive ways to handle stress. Maybe you're even taking a few healthy supplements to ensure that your body is getting all the nutrients it needs for hormonal balance and a fast metabolism. You keep trying but you still can't seem to make it happen.

The problem with weightloss is that it isn't just physical or emotional it's also mental. A majority of women who gain weight suffer from low self esteem and self limiting beliefs that make taking off the weight much harder than it really is.

What Is A Self Limiting Belief or Self Imposed Limitation?

A self imposed limitation is simply a belief about what you can and can't have, who you can or can't be and what you can or can't do. Tom Venuto author of national bestseller The Body Fat Solution: Five Principles for Burning Fat, Building Lean Muscles, Ending Emotional Eating, and Maintaining Your Perfect Weight, explains that "limiting beliefs operate below the surface and often lead to self sabotage. They are often stated as cause-and-effect, or if-then relationships. For example, I'm overweight and can't get leaner because...

1. I have no motivation
2. I have no willpower
3. I have a slow metabolism
4. I hate exercise
5. I love food
6. I don't know what to eat or how to cook
7. I'm over fifty so it's too late
8. If have kids and a job so there's no time to workout
9. I'm injured
10. I overeat when I'm stressed and so on"

According to Tom, one of the most important thing you can do if you're struggling to lose weight is identify your limiting beliefs. Once you've identified your belief system you must challenge it and replace it with a new more empowering belief system that will help you reach your weightloss goal.

This may sound complicated and time consuming but it's actually very simple. In his book, Tom outlines 7 simple steps to help you do this and he states that "change can happen in an instant".
