Colorado Beauty - 12" Quilt Block
The state of Colorado is the next stop on our quilting tour of the States. Colorado Beauty is a four-patch block that is made up entirely of half-square triangles.

Sewing Instructions:
Step 1: With a pencil (or your favorite marking method), draw a diagonal line from corner to corner on the wrong side of each light blue 3-7/8" square as shown below:
Step 2: With right sides together, layer a light blue 3-7/8" square on a dark blue 3-7/8" square. Sew a 1/4" seam on EACH side of the diagonal line that you drew in Step 1. Cut apart on the drawn line and press the seam allowance toward the darker fabric. Trim points. Repeat seven times more for a total of sixteen light blue/dark blue half square triangles.
Step 3: Arrange the half-square triangles as shown in Diagram 1. With right sides together and using a scant 1/4" seam, sew together to form rows as shown in Diagram 2. Sew rows as shown in Diagram 3 to finish the block.

Your block should measure 12-1/2" on all sides. It will measure 12" finished size when it is sewn into a quilt. |
