Getting to know Deidre Hall
Deidre Ann Hall (nicknamed Dee) was born October 31, 1947 in Milwaukee Wisconsin and raised in Lake Worth Florida. She has an Identical twin named Andrea Hall. Deidre grew up in a family with five children She became acutely aware of tragedy at a young age when her brother Terry was diagnosed with Downs Syndrome. She was elected at age 12. She is married to novelist Steve Sohmer TV executive since December 31, 1991. This is her 3rd marriage. The couple have 2 children through surrogacy (the same surrogate Robin B) David Atticus Sohmer, born August, 23rd 1992 and Tully Chapin Sohmer, born January, 19th, 1995.Her twin sister also adopted a 5 yr old daughter. She was named Best Television Role Model; won the prestigious America Women in Radio and Television (AWRT) award in 1994; garnered five Best Actress awards from Soap Opera Digest (1982-85,1995), and broke new ground for daytime stars when she guested on shows such as "The Tonight Show", "Night of a Hundred Stars", and"20/20" at the birth of her surrogate son. Recognizing her continuing appeal, in 1990, the Hallmark Co. chose Hall as celebrity spokesperson for a new card line called, "To Kids with Love". The following spring, Deidre became the sole spokesperson for Dexatrim. Deidre's elegant fashion statements have not gone unnoticed in the press. Twice naming her the "Best Dressed Woman", she was also named one of America's ten most beautiful women by TV Guide and Satellite Orbit. Hall has graced the covers of national and regional magazines such as People, Woman, Woman´s Own, TV Guide, Woman's World, McCalls, Family Circle, Shape, Los Angeles Magazine, Beverly Hills (213), Orange Coast and First for Women.
In 1986, she became the first performer ever to star in both a daytime and primetime series when she was cast as Jesse Witherspoon in NBC's "Our House." Co-starring with Wilford Brimley, Deidre and her television family created characters of such value and believability that the show was the first series to win a Viewers for Quality Television "Seal of Approval." She joined Days of our Lives on June 21,1976 as the beloved Doctor Marlena Evans , She then left the series in 1987 to focus on a career in primetime television and returned to DAYS in August 1991 .Are there any similarities between Deidre and the woman she portrays? "I don't think there are many dissimilarities," she asserts. "I play her from myself We both have the same devotion to our families. We both love our careers. We enjoy our great women friends. I can't even think what the difference would be."
She appeared on CIRCUS OF STARS and was a guest bowler on CELEBRITY BOWLER in 1971
When asked , What future do you envision for David and Tully?She replied “What I know they have already is a devoted and loving family. What I hope they come to have is wisdom and empathy and humor. Beyond that, whatever they choose for themselves, I will whole-heartedly support.”
She volunteers her time for many charitable causes. And one of the things that interests her is travel.
Deidre resides in Los Angeles with her husband, children and Freckles (the Basset) and Lucy (the English Bull Dog). in person she is warm and unpretentious.
