Basics of Basketball Injuries

Basics of Basketball Injuries
With basketball season right around the corner, it is time to start shaping up and concentrating on exercises that will help decrease your chances of getting injured. In the upcoming weeks, I will be featuring weekly articles on prevention of injury to different areas of the body, strengthening exercises for all areas of the body vulnerable to injury and equipment available to help you concentrate and strengthen those areas. I will also cover symptoms and suggested treatments of injuries (Anyone sustaining a sport injury should consult a physician and any information on this site is informational only and not intended to replace the opinion and recommendation of your physician).

Injury to the knees, shoulders, heels, hands and ankles will be some of the topics covered and I will start with the most common injuries first and work my way through from there. There is a difference in which injuries have a higher incidence based on the sex of the player and this will be featured in an article or series of its own. Injuries can be lessened and/or prevented by doing strengthening and conditioning exercises, proper stretching and warm-up and by wearing shoes that fit correctly and support adequately.

Off season is no time to slack off as it makes it harder to get back into shape and you lose most or all of the benefits of the strengthening exercises you have previously done and have to start over from scratch. Later I will be covering summer leagues and camps that can help you stay in top shape during the off time.

I will be posting reviews on products that have a proven track record for helping stabilize previously injured areas. Also reviews will be posted on products and anything and everything related to basketball. So come join the fun and learn some new things about the sport you may not have known before! I love to hear from readers about suggestions for the site, other great sites related to basketball and stories of your own about the sport, so send an email or post to the forum and welcome to basketball!
