The Internet Public Library
This library combines the power of librarians with the accesibility of the Internet.
Virtual libraries on the web are fast becoming a “can’t do without” tool for research. Students from elementary school to university level are accessing web libraries from start to finish on homework projects, research reports, and to write a thesis or theme. They provide access to quality matierals with oversite from professionals.
The Internet Public Library (IPL) offers resource links to a reading room, almanacs, calendars, style writing guides, encyclopedias, kids space, teen space as well as special collections. The mission of the Internet Public Library is to:
Provide library services to Internet users. Activities include: finding, evaluating, selecting, organizing, describing, and creating information resources; and direct assistance to individuals.
This is an excellent resource for those who do not have access to other virtual libraries or online databases. When it's 10 PM and you have a paper due the next day, the resources of the IPL will prove invaluable. Instead of random opinion, researchers have access to quality resources, intelligently organized, and presented by the University of Michigan School of Information.
