Space Battleship Yamato Background Music Collection 1 is a soundtrack CD of the background music from Space Battleship Yamato: The Movie and the first set of episodes for Space Battleship Yamato. This CD has thirty-two tracks, and was released on May 18, 2005.
The CD opens with the opening theme for Space Battleship Yamato, which is performed by Sasaki Isao and the Royal Knights. The final track on the CD is “Scarlet Scarf,” which is the ending theme for Space Battleship Yamato; this song is also performed by Sasaki Isao and the Royal Knights. The remaining thirty tracks are all background music tracks that are familiar to viewers of Space Battleship Yamato and/or Star Blazers. Track number thirty is actually a collection of several themes used at the ending of various episodes in the first season of Space Battleship Yamato; these themes range anywhere from eleven seconds to thirty-five seconds. I thought it was interesting that they were put into one track on the CD, rather than split out into five short tracks.
Even though there are thirty-two tracks on this CD, the longest one is about three minutes long. For fans of Space Battleship Yamato and/or Star Blazers, it would be extremely hard to put this CD on simply to have music going in the background. The background music composed for Space Battleship Yamato is just so memorable, that it grabs the listener and makes them want to listen intently to it. When I hear many of the pieces included on Space Battleship Yamato Background Music Collection 1, I can’t help but sit there and see in my mind the scenes that these pieces were originally used in.
Space Battleship Yamato Background Music Collection 1 is a CD that is hard to come across in the United States. You can’t simply walk into your local music store and find a copy of this CD sitting on the shelf. In order to obtain a copy of this disc, your best bet would be to find a retailer that specializes in importing music from Japan. It’s probably easiest to find this kind of retailer online, especially if you live in an area where it’s nearly impossible to find a store that imports items from Japan. If you’re a fan of Space Battleship Yamato or Star Blazers, and enjoy the background music from the series, then this CD would be a great addition to your anime music CD library.
I wrote this review after listening to a copy of this CD that my husband purchased for me as a gift.
