MySpace Sex Offender Haven
MySpace started in 2004 was a haven for sex offenders looking for his or her next victim. Recently MySpace identified and deleted 90,000 registered sex offender identities from the popular social networking system. The pedophiles profiles targeted unsuspecting children. There is new software MySpace is using to help limit the access of sex offenders. Nothing is foul proof however and in reality, the best approach to keeping children safe online is to teach adolescent and preadolescences how to protect themselves.

A new MySpace software tool called Sentinel SAFE to track online sex offenders will help MySpace from allowing known registered sex offenders from joining the popular social network. Those sex offenders found on MySpace are purged from the site and have their information is forwarded to law enforcement.

Having any contact with children and teens is a violation of most pedophiles condition of parole or probation. There are many social networking spaces on the web and all have open access or enrollment allowing anyone to sign up for an account.

The 90,000 sex offenders forced from MySpace may be slowly ending up on Face book another social networking website that has no current software in place to stop them from changing spaces. The same names forced off MySpace are now popping up on Face book. Therefore, Face book people use caution and remember there is a dark side lurking on the World Wide Web.

So if you are a Face book person please be aware that those out in cyberspace are rarely who they claim to be. That goes for any one in cyberspace. You do not know whom you are talking to or interacting with when you are online, unless you are talking directly to a family member or offline friend.
Friends can Endanger You Online

As a teen if, you learn from the lessons given by parents regarding not giving out personal information in profiles or to people online good for you. Yet, have you considered how easily a schoolmate or offline friend may place you in danger when you are online and you will never know until it is too late. Take for instance the social networking spaces discussed above, like MySpace, which many teens have found a place to show the world a little about their life.

Now you may be cautious and never give out any personal information on your profile or on your site, but what about those in your friend’s network. You know those people you know off line in the real life at school or from a club. When these friends attach to your friend network, their information can give away your safety.

Your best friend Jill might not be so careful with her online information and may talk about how the two of you are cheerleaders at the local middle school in Barnhart Missouri.
