Resume Tips

Guest Author - Dr. Taffy W. Wagner

There are a lot of people unemployed and competing for jobs. Maybe it is time you rewrote your resume. Sure, it has been a long time since you have had to look for a job and more than likely the resume you have is outdated.

There are a lot of different styles and you want to make sure that your resume is within the proper style as well as not too long. Having worked in Human Resources before, I know that if your resume is too lengthy it will not be looked at. As well as if there are grammatical errors in the cover letter, there is a strong chance your resume will not be read. Also if in the cover letter you do not include things that were asked, it will be tossed aside. This shows you do not pay attention to detail. Do yourself a favor and take your time compiling your resume.

You might need to have a couple of different resumes depending on the jobs you are applying for. If the jobs require different skills, you should tailor your resume to the job you are applying for. By all means, make sure you have the skills and knowledge for each job you are applying for. You do not want to be embarrassed by someone asking you to perform a task that you state you can do on your resume and you really cannot. They will not want to hire you based on this information.

The job market is going to be competitive because there are a lot of people unemployed. Be realistic about the jobs you are seeking as well as the pay you are asking for. Be sure and check out the links below for tips and sample resumes.
