Narnia - Edmund No Gifts from Father Christmas
Father Christmas drives his sleigh over the snow and through the woods in the book, The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. His sleigh bells ringing merrily in frosty air. He comes across three of the Pevensie children. He bestows Christmas gifts on Peter, Susan and Lucy.
Edmund Pevensie is the third eldest child in the family. He does not receive gifts from Father Christmas. Why? Was he a good boy? Everyone knows naughty boys do not receive gifts from Father Christmas.
Edmund was not with his brother and sisters when Father Christmas met them on the trail. He was not around to receive a gift. Edmund, lusting for Turkish Delight and power, goes to Queen Jadis, the White Witch. He has the false impression Queen Jadis will satisfy his desires. Imprisonment is his only gift from the White Witch.
Edmund Pevensie is not a good person. He does not follow directions. Edmund teases his young sister, Lucy, about her stories of Narnia. And he knows she is telling the truth, because he goes there too. The young man is a royal pain.
Edmund continues his evil ways in Narnia. He betrays his siblings and the Beavers. He sneaks from Mr. & Mrs. Beaver’s house. He goes to tell the White Witch their secrets. The little betrayer is willing to sacrifice his siblings to be King of Narnia.
A review of Edmund’s actions shows that he does not merit a gift from Father Christmas. Deceit does not pay for Edmund Pevensie. It is not until much later in C. S. Lewis’s book, The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe that he receives a crown. This is after helping the others defeat the so-called Queen of Narnia.
