EveningDew Bible System - Bible Study Freeware
Spring is in the air, Easter is just around the corner, and I thought it would be a great time to review a bible study program. EveningDew Software has developed a very nice beginning to intermediate level bible study software that has the ability to expand to multiple translations and has several free add-in modules.
Features
The EveningDew Bible System was, in the developer's own words, "...designed to make it quick, simple, and easy for anyone to have a free electronic version of the bible on his/her computer. . .", which they have accomplished quite nicely.
The Bible System's installed size is only 4.6 MB, and downloads at 2.08 MB with a windows installation file that has an uninstall feature. The program's interface is designed like any standard window's program, which makes learning the program very easy. Help files are included that cover all the menu selections, and has a how to section.
One of the best features of this software is it's searching capabilities, which includes a keyword(s)search and an advanced search to single out certain books and/or testaments. The search runs very fast, and displays the passage with book, chapter and verse references.
Other features included are word and name dictionaries, lists of Bible Topics and Famous Bible Stories that reference the passages, a Prophecies and Fulfillment list that references the Old and New Testament passage, and Parables and Miracles that displays each gospel's version. There is also a bookmark system and note taking capabilities.
I did find one thing missing from the software which was the fact that right click would do a copy but not a paste, nor does the edit menu have a paste feature, you need to use Ctrl + V to paste.
Web site
When I review a software I always look at the developer's web site, and EveningDew's site has the help you'll need to download, install and learn their program. There is a forum on the web site, which hasn't seen much use yet, however the posts that are there have been responded to. The site also offers a newsletter, feedback form, version history with updates lists, screen shots and FAQ's. The download page offers 3 different packages of the software, and includes downloads for the required Visual Basice Runtime 6.0 ®. EveningDew has also provided downloads for 10 different versions of the bible and several free add-ins.
The EveningDew Bible System is a solid, well developed program that is easy to use, and on top of it all it is free. I do encourage you to make a donation because this is a terrific program and deserves to be supported. My hats off to a job well done.
