Salmonella symptoms to watch for include loss of appetite, fever, stomach sensitive to touch, vomiting, diarrhea, and lethargic demeanor. It is possible for people to contract salmonella through handling contaminated pet food. It is important to thoroughly wash hands, surface areas, bowls, and utensils after handling pet food.

All stores have been directed to pull these products off the shelves and return it to Diamond Pet Foods for proper disposal. Purchased products can be returned to the place of original sale for a refund. Use caution with open bags so that food particles do not escape into the air while handling. If you have purchased the light dog food and it is stamped within the best used by time frame, it is advisable to return the food for a refund even if the lot numbers do not match.

If animals have consumed any of the products, it is wise to bring a sample of the food to the vet’s office in the event animals become symptomatic. Be sure to keep the sample in an airtight disposable container.
