Prime Suspect lead Mirren has won countless awards. At least five of them have been for her portrayal of DCI Jane Tennison. You can listen to the January 2004 Woman's Hour BBC Radio interview with Jackie Malton (see Related Links), the former Metropolitan Police Detective Chief Inspector who inspired Lynda La Plante to create the Tennison character. Don't forget to look for Helen Mirren in the film The Queen (2006), the reviews have been thumbs-up for this fine actress. In June of 2003, Mirren was made a Dame of the British Empire during the Queen's Birthday Honours.
