Lower Body Workout Tips

These lower body workout tips show you the top three ways to transform your leg workout and build lean sexy legs and a tight firm butt. Apply these quick tips to any existing lower body workout and you'll makeover your legs and butt in no time.

Combine Dumbbell Exercises with Plyometric Exercises
One of the best ways to build lean sexy legs and a great butt is by combining two very different styles of training. Standard dumbbell exercises such as lunges, squats, or step-ups with more intense fast paced plyo exercises like star jumps, jumping jack squats, or side to side shuffles. Doing the dumbbell exercises tones tightens and builds lean muscle while doing the more dynamic exercises blasts fat, burns tons of calories, and creates longer leaner muscles. This combination is way better than any machine you can do because machine training tends to add mass/bulk (yes ladies the guy trainers have no clue that some of us can build big muscular legs and we don't want to!). Combining both dumbbell exercises and plyo moves build lean legs vs. big bulky legs and at the same time burn off all that flab and cellulite.

Incorporate Giant Leg Circuits
You can still target and focus on the legs in one workout but instead of doing 3-4 boring standard sets of one exercise then going to the next exercise and so on you can combine 4 or 5 exercises into a giant circuit and get way better results. If you perform 10 reps of each of the following exercises calf raises, sumo squats, walking lunges, single leg reaches, and stability ball bridges all back to back without resting in between exercises you burn tons more fat and calories. You also don't have to use very much weight and your legs still work super hard to keep up with all the stimulation. Your legs get strong, lean, and toned without getting bulky. The big bonus here is you also save tons of time.

Combine Multi-directional Exercises, Plyo, and Yoga
If you want stronger longer leaner looking legs then targeting the lower body from every single angle and with every type of stimulus is key. Turn up the intensity big time by performing 30 seconds of one move from each of the categories below
  • bodyweight exercises: lateral lunges or diagonal lunges
  • plyo exercises: jump squats or jumping lunges
  • yoga poses: warrior pose or triangle pose
Go from one to the next without resting then take a break and repeat one or two more times. This builds sexy lean muscle, burns fat, and creates that lean long look. It's also a great way to save time.
