Hair care does not have to include commercial shampoo and conditioner which can be expensive. If you have dry scalp, dandruff, dry hair, a sensitive scalp, or allergies, holistic hair care is a great alternative to commercial products. You can clean your hair and condition your hair with natural products. Dry scalp and even dandruff can be helped with natural products. Some natural products may even clear up head lice.
Baking soda makes a great alternative to shampoo. It cleanses your hair without damaging it. There are no added chemicals or allergens. You mix baking soda with warm water and use to clean your hair. The amount of baking soda depends on your hair. You can experiment to find the best amount for you. Two to four table spoons should be enough. Mix with warm water in a cup or squeeze bottle and use in place of shampoo. It does not lather up like shampoo but it does get your hair clean.
After using baking soda to wash your air, you can use apple cider vinegar as a conditioner. A squirt bottle with apple cider vinegar and water works great. The amount of apple cider vinegar also depends in the individual. You can mix this ahead of time and keep in your shower. After your rinse the baking soda or shampoo out of your hair, just squirt it down with the apple cider vinegar mixture. You can let it sit for a few minutes like regular conditioner and then rinse it out.
You can add an essential oil or aloe juice to your apple cider vinegar mixture. Homemade scalp or conditioning treatments are also easy to make and use. You can use coconut oil as a leave in conditioner or a scalp treatment. Jojoba oil can also moisturize your hair. You can add essential oils such as tea tree, eucalyptus and rosemary to design your own scalp treatment. Coconut oil, tea tree and eucalyptus may be able to help prevent or treat lice.
If your water contains a large amount of chlorine, you can purchase a shower head with a vitamin c filter. The vitamin c filter helps eliminate some of the chlorine and helps keep you hair healthy. Chlorine can dry out your scalp and hair. Some people might also have an allergy to chlorine.
