First July 4th Celebration

First July 4th Celebration
This was the first July 4th celebration for the Mill Creek Community Club but it was held on Saturday July 5th. Probably because of other celebrations going on Friday the 4th but this left members free on Saturday to attend. It turned out to be a beautiful day with 31 teams of two golfers ready for the scramble. I was able to photograph some of the golfers as they passed by my home. I did not enter as my golf is not the best as Jane Wilmer and I discussed this and she is recovering from a broken wrist we thought maybe next year we can enter.

I was able to catch some of the golfers as they were finishing and turning in their scores. J. L. Lewis our Pro organized the scramble and posted scores. He made the pairings in three flights with a first, second and third placements in each flight.

Jane had invited me to have dinner with her as the club was serving a BBQ special of hamburger or hot dog with fries and extra fixings. A typical 4th of July menu and it was good, she and I met at 7:30 p.m. and it was a good time as the line up for our meal soon became filled in behind us with the golfers coming in to eat. The deck was already filled with early bird diners and we found a table with friends and enjoyed our meal.

I left early to set up my camera as wanted to get some pictures of the fireworks. I had never taken pictures of fireworks before and wanted to see what I could do with my new camera.

I learned a lot from this experience as should have used my telephoto lens as I missed many or caught parts of some. I need more practice on setting my lens to get a clear picture but I had fun trying. Some friends let me set the camera up between their golf carts to get a close up view. It was a great fireworks display and better than I expected, the owners did a tremendous job of making this first July 4th celebration a success.

There were people packed on the grassy area surrounding the cart path to the 18th green as the fireworks were set off on the other side of the lake. By having this on Saturday the day after the fourth brought out many people from the area to watch the fireworks. They were not disappointed and hope I can do better next year taking pictures of the fireworks.
