Beaches
When two young girls meet one summer at the beach, they form a lifelong friendship that has to endure a number of highs and lows. Here are a few movie mistakes to look for while watching “Beaches”.
∙ When a young Leona is talking to a young CC about going home after she loses the audition, the table to Leona’s left has a few odds and ends on it. When Leona leaves, there is now a bright orange scarf/material on the table that wasn’t there before. It’s gone when Hillary approaches but it’s back again when she and CC are talking.
∙ CC and Hillary go to the hotel for ice cream sodas. In the close-up of the girls, there is a man in a suit sitting behind Hillary. He can be seen standing up walking away from the table. In the next far view, when the host/waiter tells them they can’t sit there, the same man in the suit can be seen standing next to the table and walking away again!
∙ CC is showing Hillary her apartment when Hillary arrives for the first time in New York. There are three items on the side of the sink next to the red dish drainer when Hillary says she’s “crying because she’s happy”. When CC walks over a few moments later, the items are gone and the tea kettle that was in drainer is no longer there!
∙ CC is dressed up like a rabbit to deliver a singing birthday telegram to John. She’s carrying a basket with carrots in it when she arrives. After singing, she’s shown walking down the stairs as she’s talking to John and the only thing she has in her hand is a pink piece of paper which she hands to him before leaving the building. However, when she opens the door and steps outside she’s suddenly holding the basket with carrots!
∙ Hillary is in the hospital after collapsing on the stairs. Victoria goes into her room and jumps on the bed. In the front/close-up view of Victoria, Hillary brushes her hair from her left shoulder and then puts her hand on Victoria’s right shoulder. It switches to a side view of Victoria (close-up of Hillary) and Hillary’s hand switches from Victoria’s left to right shoulder again!
∙ CC and Hillary are talking outside on the deck at the beach at the end of summer. CC has her hair wrapped in a towel and Hillary is wearing a hat and glasses. There are cards on the table in front of Hillary and there is also a blue towel under CC’s right arm. When CC stands up to go make lunch, the cards are not spread out on the table in front of Hillary anymore and the towel is gone. The towel is actually next to Hillary now!
“Beaches” (1988) stars Bette Midler, Barbara Hershey, John Heard, Spalding Gray, Lainie Kazan, Mayim Bialik and Marcie Leeds. It runs 123 minutes and is rated PG-13 for sex/nudity, profanity, alcohol/drugs/smoking and frightening/intense scenes.
