Checking on Golf Update
I am always interested in what is happening to the Mill Creek Country Club and now there is movement in restoring the number one golf hole on the third nine holes. This hole was severely damaged with the last flood in 2010 except the green. That is what is so amazing as hole number nine was also damaged and the green destroyed and they run side by side. This picture is the area where the big machine is getting the green on hole nine built up in hope to protect it from future flooding.
The fairway on hole number one is now being worked on by cutting down dead trees and piling up the debris further down that fairway. They have been burning the collected debris from the past few years and burning it deep down this fairway. To leave this first green in perfect shape is amazing when you consider all the trees and debris that was channeled down the tree line between holes one and nine.
This is where cart oath turns on #1 fairway.
A small creek runs between the number one fairway and the green, you had to hit over this creek to the green, this may be why it diverted the debris away from the green. Hole one is a long par five and crosses a small creek to the green making it one tough golf hole. Following picture shows how it used to look, one of my favorite shots of this golf hole.
Now as we drive our golf carts down the cart path to get to our next golf hole, we are amazed as what we find. The big machines have been in here with what looks like the makings of a new road. This new dug up area is on the inside of the cart path and seems to cut into the tree line even further. It moves one to wonder if this is a new short cut to the number one green. A large amount of trees have grown up in this small ravine below the golf hole. It would be difficult for a fairway to run this direction to get to the green but something is going on here, that is strange.
Interested golfers can only wonder and hope for an early completion of the work that needs to be done on golf holes number one and nine. As long as we see work being done gives us assurance that we will get a continually eighteen holes will soon be here.
