Marilee Rockley
Marilee has published another book! This book of necklaces, bracelets, earring and pendants is paperbound 8.5" x 11" and has 48 pages of full color tatting. It had to be full color to do justice to the brilliantly colored threads and beads Marilee used! But like Marilee's first book, "Up and Tat'em", this is a teaching book in disguise! There are photo lay-outs for the instructions all the basics, i.e., ds, join, shuttle lock join, rings, chains, tat over ends, sewing in ends, reverse work, picots. Beading in more methods than I could list are covered with photo tutorials.
The patterns are easy to follow. Directions include hints on the techniques used, such as the starter picot on a paper clip shown here. Written text uses standard tatting notation. Photos of the finished piece are accompanied by numbered diagrams.
Most of the tutorials are present as a step by step photo layout. The sample shown here teaches the placement of beads. Beads on the core thread and on picots. Also shown is the method of adding a bead to the work without the bead being strung first on the thread. Instead the working thread is pull through the bead and a paper clip added to the end to maintain a small look at the end. This loop then is used later in a join.
Beautiful patterns, beautiful threads, colorful presentation and straightforward tatting techniques. A treat for all tatters and a tool for the beginner tatter. And for me, a cure for Spring Fever. I'm winding shuttles right now!
Note: I acquired this book myself for my personal reference library. G Seitz
