More Upgrade on Mill Creek
Playing golf on Friday I was able to get pictures of the progress on the club house and meet the new Head Pro J. L. Lewis. He was sitting in the little trailer and greeting everyone as they entered. Since it was Friday I was bringing cookies to Ruth in their trailer kitchen and brought extra for the workers in the little pro shop trailer. Mr. Lewis saw the cookies and wanted to try one.
I had a nice visit with the Pro about the lessons he plans to start in February. He wants to start a big junior program on Saturdays from 10-12 and listed the cost in his news article in this month’s newsletter. He also stated he wants to start beginner classes on Thursday from 5 to 6 p.m. and these are the ones I am interested in helping. I am hoping we get a large group of ladies who will join these classes. Mr. Lewis has won twice on the PGA tour and played the Champions Senior tour.
Working out of the two trailers seems to be doing fine. Next picture shows work in progress of the club house and upgrading the swimming pool. I have seen the blue prints of the changes being made and it will be a larger club house with bigger locker rooms, dining room and kitchen. The pro shop will be larger with more golf merchandised. It will be a great improvement for our new Mill Creek Country Club. Checking the progress of the work on the new building they have said that they should be completed by April 15 and then everything will be returned to the new club house. It will be a little tight for two and half months working in these make shift quarters.
I had to check out the big pond as work is continuing with the smaller area already filled with the special sand. Once the full area is finished a heavy duty vinyl liner will be placed to hold in all the water. We were then informed that a fountain will be installed in the middle of this pond close to the club house.
Several years ago a member of Mill Creek furnished money to build a patio next to the cart shed. It was a good idea but they built the patio around a big live oak tree. Bad mistake as the tree died from lack of water so now has been cut down. This was a very old tree and we can imagine Indians coming to rest under that tree as it grew up the ridge from the creek. They do have other plans for this area but sad to see the beautiful tree gone.
It is wonderful to hear of all the upgrade and plans to improve Mill Creek Country Club. Along with the new Golf Pro J. L. Lewis we are looking for the new days of Mill Creek and it is exciting to watch the work being done and being part of it.
