RICHARD WIDMARK
When film noir retrospectors get to the name Richard Widmark, invariably Kiss of Death (1947) is mentioned. This was Widmarks debut movie. He plays Tommy Udo, a sneering, giggling psychopathic mob hit-man who ties an old woman (Mildred Dunnock) to her wheelchair then pushes her to her death by way of a long and steep stairway. Widmark's slightly turned up lips seemed to be made to sneer, but in 1958 he made funny and sexy black and white movie with Doris Day titled Tunnel of Love, about a couple trying to have a baby. Yep! He still sneers.
Listen to Old Time Radio you may hear Richard Widmark on the 'Gangbusters' radio series. Gangbusters appears to be the forerunner of 'Americas Most Wanted' television show. Each week listeners heard stories based on actual crimes. At the end of each program, descriptions of real wanted criminals were given. And as with Americas Most Wanted, many criminals were caught because of clues given by the listening audience.
