Secretariat Reborn Review
Florida based horse trainer Hank Roberts was injured in a mishap at his farm while he and his young helper were trying to load a Thoroughbred into a trailer. He was taken to the local emergency room where he was stunned by an unexpected diagnosis.
He sent for his estranged son Christian to bring Christian up to date regarding a special horse on Hank’s farm. Christian wanted nothing to do with race horses. Slowly, as he helped his dying father prepare for a horse race, a horse his father said was going to be a champion, Christian was drawn into the challenge and excitement racing could garner, and he decides to race the horse for his father.
Unfortunately, Christian hires an unscrupulous trainer by the name of Ed Price, to take his dad’s place. Christian starts out trusting Ed and ends up costing his family an ultimate price. While he is trying to get a handle on horse racing, he also has to deal with a crazy ex-girlfriend, an Arabian sheik and his mammoth body guards, and the secret and often unpleasant underworld of racing.
As he fights to make his father proud, keep himself alive and successfully follow through with the horse that his father said is going to make them rich, it takes all the ingenuity and the memory of his father’s teaching when he was a young boy in order to make the enterprise a success. Can he get it all together and come out a winner, or is he going to lose everything his father fought so hard to build.
Secretariat Reborn was written by Susan Klaus who has extensive knowledge and practical experience with breeding, and racing, horses. She has written an intriguing story of love lost and love found in Christian’s life and the life of his father. The variety of unforgettable characters keeps the story interesting without losing the reader. There is always something going on and plot twists often suddenly appear.
Secretariat Reborn is a top notch suspense filled with romance and mystery in the world of horse racing. The author obviously understands her topic and uses her knowledge to bring a fast-paced page turner that will leave readers wanting more. If the handsome Christian Roberts is a part of that, so much the better.
