The Year Without A Santa Claus (1974)
While suffering from a bad cold, a very ill Santa Claus decides to stay at home and take Christmas off one year. But Mrs. Claus and her cohorts, Jingle and Jangle, with the help of Santa’s reindeer, Vixen, decide to convince Santa that the Christmas spirit still exists and that the children need him. Will they be able to save Christmas? Here are a few movie mistakes to looks for while watching the animated classic “The Year Without a Santa Claus”.
• When Mrs. Claus is talking to Jingle, Jangle and Vixen from the window, Mrs. Santa’s coat can be seen draped over the chair. At first, the coat and chair are in plain view when Mrs. Claus turns to the window talking about “Plan B”. A few moments later, when they’re talking about the Christmas spirit from last year, the chair’s position has changed, and looks as if it’s almost behind the bed!
• Santa is sitting at the table at Iggy’s house. When Santa is singing, during most of the song, his coffee cup is to his right. But when he sings “there’s no question in my mind”, the side view shows the cup is to Santa’s left, near Iggy. It’s back in its original position during the rest of the song.
• Iggy, Jingle and Jangle are sitting on the bench after seeing the mayor. During the scene, the first two front views of the three of them shows Jingle’s watch has two noticeably different times, by at least a few hours.
• When Mrs. Claus and her companions are talking to Heat Miser, there is a left/rear view of the group (a front view of Heat Miser sitting in his chair). There are two smaller misers to Heat Miser’s left and another one in the corner, near the right of the screen. A few moments later, when Heat Miser says “unless…”, a front view of him shows there is now only one miser to his left and there is now one on his right!
“The Year Without a Santa Claus” (1974) features the voices of Shirley Booth, Mickey Rooney, Dick Shawn, George S. Irving, Bob McFadden and Rhoda Mann. It runs 51 minutes and is unrated.
