Frosty The Snowman (1969)
Professor Hinkle’s magical hat brings Frosty the Snowman to life in this animated holiday favorite. But when the greedy magician wants his hat back, those who helped to create Frosty, including Karen and Hinkle’s own rabbit, Hocus Pocus, go on a mission to save him. Here are a few movie mistakes to look for while watching “Frosty the Snowman”.
• When Professor Hinkle takes off his hat, a lot of his “magical accessories” fall to the floor. He bends down to pick them up and he’s not holding the hat in his hand. But when he stands up, it’s back in his right hand. Also, when the three eggs hit the floor, the close-up shows the shells are shattered in 15 or so pieces. But when Hinkle says “messy, messy, messy”, there are only four pieces on the floor and the piece to the right of the screen rolls out of site. It seems to be back when he puts his handkerchief down.
• When Professor Hinkle is holding his hat as Karen is telling him it’s (the hat) isn’t his anymore, the flower on it is nowhere to be seen. But in the close-up, when Hinkle shoves Hocus Pocus in, the flower is facing the front.
• Hocus Pocus brings the hat back to the schoolyard and hops behind Karen. There is a boy in blue to Karen’s left and a smaller boy in light green standing in front of her. A boy with brown hair is standing in front of them. When Karen turns around and sees the hat, the boy in the blue sweater is gone and the boy with brown hair is the one next to her.
• When they show Santa’s sleigh in the air, there are only four reindeer pulling it. There are supposed to be eight!
• CAUTION: May Contain Spoilers! Karen is crying when Santa and Hocus Pocus come into the greenhouse. The puddle in front of her has the hat and Frosty’s corn cob pipe in it. When Santa walks over to comfort her and picks her up, the corn cob pipe is in front of her along with his button nose. But the hat is gone from the puddle.
• CAUTION: May Contain Spoilers! Professor Hinkle jumps from behind the tree and yells “Wait a minute”. He runs over and is between Frosty and Karen when Santa says “Don’t you dare touch that hat”. It cuts to a close-up of the two of them and instead of Frosty being on Hinkle’s left side, it’s the tree that he was originally hiding behind. The scene cuts back to the wider view (that includes Karen and Frosty) and there’s no tree (but now a can has appeared). It cuts back to the close-up with the tree and then returns to the wider view again. This time, when Santa tells him maybe he’ll find something in his stocking, the tree is suddenly there.
“Frosty the Snowman” (1969) features the voices of Jimmy Durante, Jackie Vernon, Billy De Wolfe, Paul Jeans and June Foray. It runs 25 minutes and is rated G.
