In 1979, a popular, but dangerous, Aspen, Colorado drug dealer by the name of Tucker was shocked when someone dared steal a new batch of cocaine and $75,000 in cash right out from under him. The daring crime was pulled off by an impulsive twenty-year-old by the name of Lee Shelby.

The young thief quickly headed for southwestern Wyoming but encountered a number of challenges along the way including several law enforcement agencies chasing him much sooner than he expected. An unexpected automobile accident threw him off course and caused him to change his plans. As soon as he could get away from the catastrophe, he headed into the mountains using the deep forest as protective cover.

After several weeks hiding in the mountains with the help of a friend or two, Lee began searching for his former girlfriend in earnest. She had gotten caught up in the clutches of drug dealer Tucker. Lee and Laura were reunited, but still had to deal with Tucker. Lee decided he was going to make sure Tucker was caught, Laura was free of him, and Lee and Laura were together for good.

Unfortunately, he was facing an uphill battle if he was going to get everything straightened out before he was sidelined for life by a number of people who wanted him dead or permanently behind bars.

Saving Laura was written by Jim Satterfield, author of The River’s Song, and his award winner first novel, Soon You Will Cry. He is a story teller with a strong sense of place who wisely uses location, weather, and local characters to bring his stories to life. From the first sentence to the realistic but unexpected ending the wordsmith never lets up as he lays out his tale.

Saving Laura is a love story as well as an exciting adventure that takes the reader through rugged landscape across two states. It’s easy to feel the pressure and urgency Lee feels as he first searches for Laura, and then strives to keep her safe from harm after they reconnect. He will do whatever he has to in order to accomplish that goal. That is true love.
