An article of Interest on Austin
When the golf magazine Golf Digest arrives I look for articles of interest to me. Following all the advertising and golf lessons from one pro and another I pass over those to see if there is something that grabs my interest. Sure enough they did nott fail as I run across an article about Austin, Texas called Take it to the Limit in their travel section. This is about Austin and their golf courses and resorts plus music. Austin is famous for their musical festivals but also listening to music by their iphone resting in the golf cart cup holder as the authors talked about.
This article was edited by Peter Finch one of the editors for Golf Digest it was written by Matt Ginella and photographed by Walter Looss Jr .remarked about playing golf at the Omni Barton Creek Resorts and Spa and hitting the Austin City Limits music festival afterwards. Austin is famous for being a music city and has many well known bands and artist entertaining there. The author & photographer included pictures of their travels to Austin. Their description of the golf courses at Barton Creek Resort and Spa including include these courses Fazio Foothills, Fazio Canyons, Crenshaw Cliffside and Palmer Lakeside.
I have played a few courses in Austin but not any of these their fees range from $250.00 to $150.00 and are out of my price range. The author describes the Fazio Foothills is like taking a roller-coaster ride through the Hill Country without the Screaming. I played one course at Crystal Falls where you needed a gas golf carts to make it around the 18 holes. Beautiful scenery and rock cliffs and decorated all over with white sand stone rocks. There are so many golf courses in and around Austin that are excellent golf course so Austin is a golfing dream for groups.
To make Austin a good group outing there are excellent restaurants as the article talks about the County Line Bar-B-Q and Austin’s Tex Mex food stops. I have been to the County Line in Austin and it is great they also have one in Houston and have been to that one also. It is the music that brings people to Austin as the article mentions that Austin City Limits at the 350 acre Zilker Park has lined up 134 bands and in six days, these include many favorite musicians.
The author also recommends that October is one of the best times to visit Austin meaning the humidity is low and temperature excellent for golf and music. Food courts are scatter around this massive Festival setting plus also include an art market by the Austin artisans. Open festival music is becoming popular in many of the cities around Austin. Here in Salado we also have outdoor musicians on stages next to the Johnny’s BBQ plus the Wineries so Texas is a good place to visit for golf, good food and music. We also will have a great golf course the Mill Creek Country Club so Salado will be a great stop for any group.
The article closes by saying they took a bicycle rickshaw ride around Austin and especially 6th Street where you also will find more music, bars and interesting people. They said that there’s no better place for golf and live music that what he found in Austin and I say Salado is an hour’s drive away well worth the drive.
