Married No Kids
Next time you leisurely walk about your local bike or walking path, take a look around. What do you see? Most certainly you will notice mothers pushing baby strollers, or fathers riding bikes with their kids. But look again; you may also notice couples walking their dogs or jogging together with no children in sight. The fact is the portrait of the perfect family unit is changing before our eyes. No longer are neighborhoods occupied by a population of working husbands and stay-at-home mothers with two children and a white picket fence. Neighborhoods are now composed of a potpourri of married couples with kids, married couples with no kids, couples cohabitating, interracial couples, homosexual couples, couples with elderly parents, divorced parents, and single parents. The fact is the traditional family unit is becoming a thing of the past.
Opportunities for women have grown drastically in the past two decades, and in lieu of following the traditional path of marriage, children, and a house surrounded by a white picket fence, some women are delaying procreation and choosing to explore the world, expand their horizons intellectually, excel in careers, and find more ways to express themselves creatively. Some women choose to decline on procreating all together, while others delay having a family until it physically may be too late. Whether it’s a personal choice to be childfree or being childless due to genetics, life does go on for individuals who have not procreated
