The Devil’s Madonna Review

The Devil’s Madonna Review
Kali Miller was called to the hospital after her grandmother almost burned her house down after lighting hundreds of candles around the older home. While she was in the hospital, Lillian began having flashbacks from the past when she was a young woman. As soon as Kali arrived to take her grandmother home, Lillian insisted her home was going to be invaded.

Shocked at the revelation that her grandmother had ties with Nazi Germany in 1930's Berlin, Kali tried to rectify what she was learning about her family and their past, and the grandmother she now knows. She also finds out her grandmother had a personal relationship with Hitler. Kali finds out about a small painting that has remained hidden for over seventy years, and how it has personal significance to Lillian.

In the meantime, the married Kali is pregnant and looking forward to the birth of her first child. Because her own mother died when Kali was a young child, she asks her grandmother numerous questions about their history. When Kali looked into the history of her family through the eyes of her ninety-three-year-old grandmother, she found out more than she expected. As she digs deeper into her family’s past, she finds she must also deal with present issues between her and her husband.

The Devil's Madonna is a novel written by thriller writer Sharon Potts, author of In Their Blood and Someone’s Watching. The author has written a well-plotted story that could easily send chills down the reader’s spine. Someone described this novel as an atmospheric thriller and that is what it feels like. The author is able to establish an atmosphere throughout the book no matter where the setting.

The Devil’s Madonna was a spellbinder of a story although it wasn't an easy read for me. I stayed with it through the twists and turns to the shocking end. The author deftly ties together the present and the past and by the end of the novel when the deepest secrets are revealed, the reader will more than likely be left feeling stunned. It will not be difficult to wonder what happens next to this family. More than likely the author will leave it up to our own imagination.
