The Hentai Prince and the Stony Cat

The Hentai Prince and the Stony Cat
The "Hentai" Prince and the Stony Cat is based on a light novel series written by Sou Sagara and illustrated by Kantoku.

The main character of the series is Yoto Yokodrea, a second-year high school student who is a major pervert. However, he has problems with showing his true emotions. One day, Yoto's best friend tells him about a "stony cat" on a nearby hill that allowed him to get rid of his impure thoughts. According to Yoto's friend, by making a wish upon the statue and giving an offering, a person can wish to remove a personality trait that they don't want anymore; however, that trait will be given to someone else who needs it.

Yoto decides he wants to make a wish to the statue to drop his façade and be able to tell people how he really feels. When he goes to the statue one night, he runs into a girl named Tsukiko Tsutsukakushi. She has come to make a wish to be able to be more like an adult and not show her emotions so easily.

The day after they make their wishes, Yoto blurts out everything he's thinking and can't tell any lies, while Tsukiko is unable to show any sign of emotions. They realize they don't like the changes that happened and plan to work together to try to find out who has received their trait and to get it back.

By the end of the first episode, Yoto discovers that the new stuck-up transfer student Azusa Azuki has his trait. At the end of the episode, Yoto offers to be by her side and to grovel in order to try to get his trait back.

From the title, I knew going into this that the main male character had to be some kind of pervert, so that angle definitely wasn't unexpected. I had no idea what the stony cat was until I saw the episode. I didn't find Yoto to be much a likeable character, but I think he was designed to be that way intentionally. While I'm not a fan of the pervert aspect of the concept, I do think the overall concept with the personality traits and the stony cat statue is an interesting one. Also, the concept of trying to get the personality traits back has some potential as well.

This series may not be my cup of tea, but I think it's successful at what it's trying to accomplish. If you enjoy watching anime for simple and escapist entertainment, then I think you will enjoy The "Hentai" Prince and the Stony Cat.

Personally, I would recommend this series to anime viewers who are 15 or 16 years of age and older.
