This tea book is a very beautiful coffee table sized book. Its pages are works of art. The photography is by award winning photographer Thomas Rouse and the delightful design and printed art pages are skillfully done by notable Ann Griffin and are both completely splendid. One may forget that this tea book isn’t an art book!
The author and picture stylist of this book is Eileen Shafer. MS Shafer is not just your average tea enthusiast. For many years MS Shafer was the proprietor of the Royal Tea Impressions Tea shops; of which there were two locations. MS Shafer is also a trained Interior Designer that certainly knows how to set the table for many a high tea.
MS Shafer has many talents and passions, one of which, beside tea is that of writing. She has done many a review on tea itself as well as personal interest stories and tea articles in her tea newsletter for her own tea shops. Her work was done well and caught the attention of the Tea Magazine. She eventually went on to contribute her skills on a regular basis with the Tea Magazine.
Her final passion was to continue to write about tea every chance she got culminating in the writing of this book.
This book is divided neatly into chapters to help the reader navigate through the education of tea. There is a section for example on the tea terms or types of tea.
MS Shafer called upon a good friend to help consult and have expert opinion on the writing of this book. This consultant was Mr. John Harney of Harney & Sons Fine Teas! He is considered highly skilled in the field of expert where tea is concerned. MS Shafer continues to build up an A-List of wonderful tea experts and friends over the years.
This tea book gives the reader an easy education; from the types of, the selection of, the preparation of and gives helpful hints for tea.
MS Shafer then helps the reader actually plan a tea party, or even a high tea. She gives ideas and insight on the menu, the recipes, the shopping, the table designing and even the invitations.
She continues with her own style and grace by providing the reader with information about etiquette and manners. She then displays attention to all the little details in order to provide the reader with a well- rounded grouping of information in order for them to culminate in the hosting of their own special tea themselves.
All this and wonderful tea quotes that are dispersed throughout the book further adds to the ambiance of the whole tea experience.
This book was pretty to read and was filled with wonderful information. I was very pleased to have met MS Eileen Shafer in person and she was as lovely as her book. This book is a part of my private book collection.
