Janet No Longer Good Enough For Disney

Guest Author - Michelle Snow

Poor Janet Jackson. Since the infamous baring of her breast at the Super Bowl, a little over a month ago, she has become a pariah in the entertainment industry.

Then, she is asked to step down from appearing at the Grammys. Shortly after, she is shut out of the Lena Horne biographical movie that she has fought hard to win--by Ms. Horne herself.

You would think the waters would have quieted down by now. Apparently not. Now Disney has quietly gotten rid of a 6-foot statue of Mickey Mouse that was dressed like Jackson.

Janet Jackson statue from the Magic Kingdom exhibit [m.snow]Several months ago, Disney unveiled 75 statues at Disney World to celebrate the 75th birthday of Mickey Mouse. Among the 700-pound statues, was one dressed to look like Jackson that used a black outfit and cap similar to what she wore in 1990 after the release of her album, "Rhythm Nation 1814."

The statue was in place during the exhibit at Walt Disney World's Magic Kingdom for several months. However, when the statues were shipped to a convention center in Philadelphia, for investors to see at Disney's annual shareholder meeting this week, the Jackson one was replaced by a spare statue designed by an in-house Disney artist.

The only explanation given by a Disney spokesman was that considering all the controversy it drew, they decided to replace Jackson's Mickey with a new one. No word from Jackson's camp regarding this and calls to her publicist have gone unanswered.

What do you think of all of this? Do you feel all the repercussions towards Jackson are justified, or do you think a mountain is being made out of a molehill [in this case a bare breast]? Talk about it on the message boards.
