By Unknown Means Review
Special Agent Michael Callaway of the U.S. Customs Service and his partner Jorge Hildago had been intercepting drug boats off the coast of Florida and the Bahamas for two years. On this night, they had two DEA agents along with them as a result of Intel received that a boat loaded with cocaine was on its way in. A U.S. Customs helicopter was overhead on the dark and stormy night that had the DEA agents hanging over the rails.
The goal for the night was to catch the elusive criminals running drugs into the country by stopping them from reaching their drop-off destination. Unfortunately, the nighttime ops did not turn out the way he planned and Callaway found himself in the hot seat with his attention grabbing boss, Major Dick.
The afternoon before his meeting with his boss, the meeting where he was likely to be fired, he received a financial windfall that changed his life forever. Now that he had all the money he would ever need, he bought a boat, grabbed his former partner, and took off for the Bahamas for a relaxing time of fishing and drinking beer.
Their fishing expedition became one of the more challenging and dangerous undertakings the pair had ever become involved in when they found themselves up against one of the most ruthless drug lords they ever met. It soon became apparent their lives were in grave danger as their efforts to bring down Anton Drake ramped up. He lived on his own private island called Golgotha, and trying to reach the drug lord was more than they bargained for.
By Unknown Means was written and self-published by Doug Giacobbe, his second novel. He followed with a second Michael Callaway book, By Unchained Vengeance.
Giacobbe writes with a fast-paced, easy cadence that draws readers into a story that is difficult to leave. His characters are interesting and well thought out – especially the main characters, both good and bad.
It’s easy to feel the excitement and fear of the characters, a tool the author puts to good use on land and at sea. Readers will find the descriptive locales and detailed action scenes easy to believe as they get drawn into the danger that awaits the protagonists.
By Unknown Means was purchased by this reviewer with the intent on writing an honest review. If you are interested in this or any other Doug Giacobbe book, they are available on Amazon.com.
