The Pet Girl of Sakurasou is an anime series based on the light novel series written by Hajime Kamoshida and illustrated by Keeji Mizoguchi.

Sorata Kanda is the main character, and he's a second year student at the Suimei University of the Arts. He lives in the Sakura Dormitory, which is home to the troublemaking students at the school. However, Sorata is actually a normal guy; he has to live in Sakura Dormitory because he took in a stray cat, and cats aren't allowed in the regular dorms. When he was given the ultimatum of getting rid of the cat or moving into Sakura Dormitory, he chose to move.

One day, the dorm teacher asks Sorata to retrieve her cousin, Mashiro, who is a new transfer student. Mashiro moves into Sakura Dormitory. She's a very talented artist, but for some reason, she is lacking in common sense and living ability. Sorata ends up being put in charge of Mashiro, and this is apparently what is supposed to be a driving force of the story as well as the humor of the series. From what I saw in the first episode, I didn't think it was all that funny.

I'm personally a bit uncomfortable with the premise of this series. In the first episode, Mashiro is unable to choose her own underwear, tie her own shoes, or clean up after herself. Sorata ends up having to do all of these things for her. The story is basically perpetrating the idea that she's a female who can't do anything for herself, and that she needs to rely on a man to do things for her. Honestly, this is not the behavior I would expect from a high school student; it's more what I would expect from a preschooler or even a child in very early elementary school. Not only do I find this premise for the series to be unfunny, but it's also a little on the disturbing side.

Visually, there's a bit of "fanservice," but the show isn't shoving it into the viewer's face in almost every scene. Outside of the "fanservice," there wasn't anything else terribly objectionable that I saw while watching the first episode.

I think that The Pet Girl of Sakurasou will appeal to a very particular segment of the anime audience, and it's not a segment that I'm a part of. With the premise of the series, along with the "fanservice" that's included, I would recommend The Pet Girl of Sakurasou to anime viewers who are 15 or 16 years of age and older.
