Honeymoon Travel -- Airport Tips
In the past week I've been in four different airports. And frankly, since I've been traveling by myself without any small children in tow, and I've had two really, really good books to read (A Thousand Splendid Suns by Kahled Hosseini and The View from Mount Joy by Lorna Landvik -- both EXCELLENT!), I haven't minded waiting for flights one bit.
However, at Denver International Airport, I had a two-hour layover, and I turned to two of my favorite things to do at DIA. I got a massage from "A Massage" ($38 for a 30-minute chair massage) and totally savored a Grande Burrito from Que Bueno! (about $8). Both can be found in the B concourse, for any of you folks who find yourselves at DIA with time to kill.
Que Bueno! was voted the best airport restaurant by readers of one of Denver's alternative weeklies. How'd I found this out? Read about it online. Which leads me to my first tip for thinking ahead about the time you'll spend in airports during your honeymoon travels:
Log onto the airports' websites Be fully prepared ahead of time just in case you do find yourselves delayed at an unfamiliar airport. Most airport websites have a directory of stores, restaurants and services. Get the scoop on which terminal or concourse you'll likely land in, and familiarize yourself with what's there.
Consider a day pass to an airline's lounge If you don't belong to a the Delta Crown Club or United's Red Carpet Club, but you find yourselves looking at four hours to kill in an airport, ask about day passes to the facilities, which might include showers, computers or complimentary snacks and drinks. Day passes range from about $30 to $60.
Get rubbed I always seek out the little massage places in airports. Even just 10 minutes having the kinks worked out of my neck puts me in a much better mood before my next flight.
Get cultured Most airports have some sort of public art display. Ask at the information center where you might find history, photography or fine-art exhibits.
